Understanding Certification Types
Not all certificates are the same. Understanding what each type covers helps you ask the right questions and match documentation to project requirements.
Management System Certificates
ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certify that an organisation operates under documented quality and environmental management processes. They cover the organisation that holds the certificate -- not any specific product, performance level, or test result.
Key point
A valid management certificate does not confirm that a particular product meets a performance specification.
Product Test Reports
Standards such as SEFA 8 and CE declarations are linked to specific product types, materials, and configurations listed in the report or declaration. They apply only to what is explicitly covered -- not to a full product range or an entire laboratory installation.

Always verify that the certificate holder, product description, and revision match the items being supplied.
On-site & Performance Testing
Standards such as ASHRAE 110 describe a test method used to evaluate a fume hood under controlled conditions. Passing a factory test does not automatically guarantee equivalent performance after installation, as real-world airflow is affected by room layout, HVAC balance, and usage patterns.

Site commissioning and field testing by qualified personnel remain necessary for performance-critical applications.

Neither type of certificate implies that every product supplied on a given project is tested, certified, or compliant with all applicable regulations in the destination country.
Before specifying products, customers and their consultants should verify which certificates apply to the exact product type and configuration being ordered, confirm that the certificate is current and within its stated scope, determine which standards are mandatory in the project's jurisdiction, and arrange for any required on-site testing or commissioning to be completed by qualified local personnel.
